2026 Painting Expedition
I’m Nicole — the ADHD artist who creates with color, chaos, honesty, and a whole lot of heart. This fall, I’m taking myself, my dog, and my art supplies on an 8‑week RV road trip. It’s a healing journey, a creative mission, and a chance to witness the world as it is and document it through my art. Everything I create on this trip will eventually become part of my upcoming makerspace project, Chaos & Color, once it launches after I return home.
This journey is part healing, part resistance, part reclamation. My mental health has taken hits over the last few years, and I’m choosing to live my life with the values I hold: honesty, courage, creativity, and refusing to stay silent. I want to witness what’s happening in our world — not from a distance, but from the road — and use my art to process, record, and share it. I’ll be painting at places like ICE detention facilities, small towns, national parks, and community spaces — documenting the beauty, the tension, and the truth of this moment in history. This trip is how I reconnect with myself, my work, and the communities that have supported me as Nicole the ADHD Artist.
Meet Nicole
Hello! I'm Nicole Colunga, the artist behind Art by Nicole. Based out of Kansas City, I love to grab my paints and go. Painting in parks, trails, bars and restaurants, to music, or by a waterfall is my Jam. I have a passion for painting the “moments that matter”, as I say. Sometimes, this is joyful moments like shows and weddings. Sometimes, it’s small moments or something I see throughout the day. And sometimes, it’s the hard moments, where pain and sorrow and anger and overwhelm live. I tend to focus on current events and mental health in my personal work. When I'm not painting, you'll likely find me with my nose in a book, at Karaoke, or spending time with my dog.
