Live Painting: The Process

  • Begin with looking through my portfolio and customer experiences. Because this is an investment for a lifetime, you'll want to ensure that my style vibes with your vision. Think about the scene you'd like painted and which special guests, if any, you'd like included. Do you prefer your ceremony or reception? Your entrance or exit? Speeches, or dancing? Consider your desired canvas size and format, vertical or horizontal. It's up to you, which memories you want to turn into art!

  • During our consultation, we will discuss your vision, and I will take detailed notes. We will talk through pricing to help you choose the investment best fitting your situation. If you like any of my previous paintings- let me know! I will have you complete a questionnaire to gather information regarding your wedding- colors, décor, focus- bringing in all the details you want captured. This step is free and does not obligate you to book your event painting with me.

  • During or after your consultation, we will draw up a contract once you've chosen the package that best appeals to you. Once you return a completed contract and deposit, the day is yours! You will receive an invoice for your payment.

  • After you have booked your date, I will evaluate my notes from our consultation and your questionnaire and begin a few basic sketches. I will likely request photos of your venue and individuals who will be in focus in the painting, and send you the rough sketches for feedback. Because my artistic style is more realistic than impressionistic, I prefer to arrive at your day with both of us understanding the basic end-goal. One thing we always have to remember is that things can change the day of the wedding, but creating this preliminary sketch helps both feel more confident we are on the same page.

  • One month prior to your wedding, we will have a last consultation, reviewing any preliminary sketches and anything that has changed in your planning process. We will chat about any last arrangements that need organized. Where possible, I love to meet at the venue to capture photos and make final decisions on the angle and where you'd like my set up.

  • On the day of your wedding, I will show up to your venue about 3 hours early to set up my easel and begin painting the background. As the day unfolds, the painting evolves. I encourage guests peek over my shoulder to watch your painting take shape, and I welcome conversation as I paint. You are welcome to watch as well, or wait until the end of the evening for a big reveal!

  • At the end of the evening, I will take the painting home for final details, studio refinement, and apply a glossy finishing layer. Within 4-6 weeks your painting will be on the way to your home- either delivered or shipped to you.

  • I offer add-ons such as a high resolution photo of your painting, prints, or thank you cards. We can also discuss any additional post-wedding paintings you're interested in, such as the bridal bouquet or another special moment you'd like captured.
